Philippe St-Martin is in the process of completing his bachelor's degree in kinesiology. He wishes to pursue a master's degree in physical activity sciences. He will begin his master's degree in January 2021, which will focus on training during prolonged bed rest, as one would find in hospitalization patients or during exposure to microgravity. Ultimately, he wants to be part of the next generation of aerospace professionals in Canada and is more specifically interested in optimizing physical training for long-duration space missions. Also a student member of the executive council of the Association des kinesiologues de la région de l'Estrie (AKRE), his task is to write various scientific capsules intended for its members. According to him, the popularization of scientific research is essential to allow the general public to benefit from advances in science.

My name is Kathrine Thibeault and I am a master's student in biochemistry at the University of Sherbrooke at the Saguenay campus in the laboratory of Pr. Luigi Bouchard. My master's project is focused on the impact of obesity on the plasma microRNA profile in the context of pregnancy.

I am currently a doctoral student in biochemistry at the University of Sherbrooke - Saguenay campus under the supervision of Prof. Luigi Bouchard and Prof. Anne-Marie Côté. My doctoral project involves the identification of plasma microRNAs that are associated with gestational hypertension and pre-eclampsia. My interest in cardiometabolic complications also led me to work on a project evaluating the association between microRNAs transported by high density lipoproteins (HDL) and the cardiometabolic profile of healthy individuals.

I am a doctoral student in biochemistry at the University of Sherbrooke at the Saguenay campus. My research project focuses on the identification of microRNAs that allow the prediction of gestational diabetes onset from the first trimester of pregnancy as well as the metabolic pathways in which they are involved.

Yasaman Ghorbani is a MSc student at Institute of Medical Science, University of Toronto. Currently, she is studying the role of fecal microbiota transplant in treating insulin resistance. Her research interests include intestinal microbiome, diabetes, insulin resistance and obesity.

My name is Gabrielle Trépanier and I am about to start my third year of study in medicine with a research profile. My interest in research developed during college when I carried out a project on compounds of different materials as part of my organic chemistry course. During the first year of my preclinical studies, I acquired a particular interest in obesity and all the metabolic complications that are associated with it, particularly diabetes and hepatic steatosis. I have worked on these topics for two summers so far.

I am Mahrukh Jamil. I am doing masters in Exercise science from the department of health, kinesiology and applied physiology at Concordia university, Montreal, Canada. I have a bachelors in Biomedical engineering from N.E.D university of engineering and technology, Karachi, Pakistan. I am currently affiliated with Montreal Behavioural Medicine Centre (MBMC), where I am working as a research student. I have been working on a systematic review on longitudinal association between Endothelial function and diabetes type II, but I have been actively taking part in other behavioral studies going at our lab which includes: 

  • A pilot study on Smoking and Reactivity to mental stress: Comparison of traditional and electronic cigarettes

  • The International Assessment of COVID-19-related Attitudes, Concerns, Responses and Impacts in Relation to Public Health Policies (iCARE) study)

Hi my name is yu zhe li or more commonly refered to as Andy, I am currently a second year masters student under the supervision of Dr. Minna Woo at University Health Network as part of the Institute of Medical Science program from the University of Toronto. My current project focuses on studying the role of PTEN in cholinergic Phox2B neurons located in the dorsal vagal complex through the use of a transgenic Cre-LoxP model. By using this model, I hope to deduce cholinergic PTEN's role in glucose homeostasis in the context of type 2 diabetes.

Elite Possik is currently a postdoctoral fellow at Dr. Marc Prentki’s laboratory (MDRC-CrCHUM). She received her PhD in biochemistry from McGill University in June 2016 where she acquired expertise and knowledge in oncometabolism. She is currently investigating the pathophysiological functions of a newly discovered phosphatase in mammalian cells using the nematode Coenorhabditis elegans as a genetic model. Her broad research interest is to understand the roles of nutrition and metabolism in health and disease.
